You can get Cancer from Asbestos Siding

“You can get Cancer from Asbestos called Mesothelioma
It only takes one tiny particulate of asbestos in your lungs to cause the asbestos cancer known as Mesothelioma. So think of that like this: a particulate is like a tiny piece of dust and how often do you think we breathe in dust? Like all the time So if you are disturbing asbestos it gives off dust and the person disturbing it or other unknowing people who come in contact with that person or the area of disturbance can breathe that stuff in. Not good to say the least.”

We hope most people already know this information but there are some people who either do not take the warnings seriously or just flat out don’t know the risks. These are the people we would like to educate. You don’t have to remove asbestos siding to be at risk. In more cases than you would think, siding installers have (and often still do) install siding right over the top of asbestos siding. You see you can nail through it – although it is difficult. I myself, many years ago, used to install vinyl siding right over the top of asbestos siding (it was for some company I worked for and at that time I didn’t know any better). The problem is, when you side over the top of asbestos siding opposed to removing it, you crack the asbestos siding and often some of it falls to the ground. In either case, the asbestos particulates can be released into the air. Since it only takes one particulate of airborne asbestos to cause asbestos cancer (Mesothelioma) – it’s nothing you want to fool around with.
So PLEASE Do-It-Yourself ‘ers (DIY) Do NOT Remove or Side over Asbestos Siding. It’s just not worth the risk.
